Review the actual item
Look through every photo. Read the full condition, description, clarification, pickup area, auction deadline, price, and bid history. Ask the seller to clarify anything material before you commit.
SaveOnEd connects adults for local, in-person item exchanges. Use these steps before you bid, while you arrange the handoff, and before any money or item changes hands.
SaveOnEd reports are not monitored as an emergency channel.
A bid or Buy Now request should reflect a real intention and ability to complete the transaction. Slow down enough to understand the item and the seller before committing.

Ratings, completed handoffs, an approved profile photo, and Campus Verified status can add context, but no badge or rating is a guarantee. Consider the entire pattern.
Compare typical market value. For phones, computers, jewelry, collectibles, or branded goods, plan how you will verify ownership, authenticity, serial status, locks, and function.
A very low price, stock-looking images, conflicting details, pressure to move quickly, or refusal to allow inspection are reasons to pause or walk away.
The seller’s approval closes the auction and unlocks handoff steps. Payment for the item still occurs directly between buyer and seller after inspection at the meetup.
Clear listings reduce surprises at the meetup and protect both people. Only list an item you own or are legally authorized to sell.
Photo safety: listing photos should show the item—not the seller, another person, a body part, or a reflection. Product packaging, printed artwork, and book covers may naturally contain people and should be reviewed in context.
Back to top ↑Choose a time with staff, customers, students, or other members of the public nearby.
A staffed campus building entrance, busy café, public lobby, police safe-exchange area, or monitored retail location can be appropriate.
For higher-value or bulky items, bring another adult. Otherwise, tell someone the exact plan and share your location.
Do not follow someone to a vehicle, residence, isolated parking area, or different location because of sudden pressure.
SafeTradeSpots maintains a nationwide locator of participating law-enforcement exchange locations. Availability and hours vary; verify the location independently.
Large or immovable item: meet the other person at a public location first. Share a private pickup address only if you feel comfortable, bring help, and avoid entering or inviting someone into an isolated space.
Back to top ↑If the item, participant, or location does not match the plan, do not continue automatically.
Power on electronics, check serial or activation status, inspect damage, and compare the item with its auction.
A buyer may politely decline if the item is materially different. Do not let urgency replace inspection.
Both parties should verify the final amount using their own trusted source—not a screenshot supplied by the other person.
SaveOnEd ratings unlock after both people confirm completion and help future members evaluate marketplace history.
Scam scripts change, but the pressure points are consistent: urgency, secrecy, irreversible payment, fake proof, or an attempt to take over an account.
Do not share it. SaveOnEd does not ask another member to collect a verification, sign-in, or two-factor code from you.
Do not refund or forward money. Verify any payment independently. Fake checks and fake payment notices can appear convincing.
Do not pay. For SaveOnEd’s local item handoffs, inspect the item in person before paying the seller.
Do not sign in through a link supplied by a marketplace member. Navigate directly to saveoned.com or your payment provider.
Stop. These payment methods are difficult to reverse and are common fraud signals.
Decline an unexpected relocation. Stay with the mutually agreed public plan or cancel.

What happens to a SaveOnEd report: it enters a private administrative review queue. SaveOnEd may review the relevant account, auction, bids, handoff activity, safety signals, and audit records, then restrict, pause, remove, restore, or escalate activity as appropriate. A report is not a guarantee of a particular outcome.
Back to top ↑No. SaveOnEd’s auction bids and Buy Now requests establish the agreed transaction, but the buyer pays the seller directly after inspecting the item at the in-person handoff. Optional listing upgrades and official merchandise are separate transactions.
No. A Buy Now request reserves the item while the seller decides. Seller approval closes the auction and unlocks handoff instructions; it does not charge the buyer for the item.
No deposit is required by SaveOnEd. If a seller will not permit an in-person inspection before payment, cancel and report the concern.
No. Never share any code, password, sign-in link, authenticator number, recovery code, or payment credential with another member.
Pause the exchange. Inspect and discuss the difference before payment. A buyer may politely decline a materially different item. Report intentional deception through the auction controls.
A neutral public location is safer. For a large item that cannot be moved, first meet publicly, bring another adult, tell someone the plan, and proceed only if you feel comfortable.

No rating, bargain, bid, or Buy Now request is more important than your safety. Leave if the location, person, item, payment, or conversation feels wrong.
